Event Details

The Fan District Association’s 49th Annual Holiday House Tour, “Holiday Houses You Are Sure to Adore”, will take place on December 10 and 11, 2011, from 1-5 pm each day. Shuttle bus service will be provided to tour goers.

This year’s tour will feature a first-time view of a complete restoration of a three-floor Victorian Monument Ave house. Other houses include one being previewed in two magazines in December.  The other 7 houses are located along Lombardy Park, a renovated children’s theme park, and have never been on tour before.

Richmond’s Fan District, a revitalized residential neighborhood made up of late 19th and early 20th century houses, is one of the largest and least altered historic townhouse districts in the South. The Fan District is on the National Register of Historic Places and represents one of the largest concentrations of Victorian period townhouses in the U.S. The area’s name comes from avenues that “fan out”, creating spaces for small triangle parks from which the avenues start. One of those parks is Lombardy Park.

Participation by homeowners and volunteers in the annual Tour enables the Association to carry out its mission of keeping the Fan District a highly desirable place to live for all. Proceeds are used to enhance the neighborhood through school projects, tree planting, park and alley refurbishments, concerts, and collaboration with the City of Richmond Police and VCU. The Tour also provides financial support for the Association’s community newsletter.
